CPR Training Products

We recommend full training in CPR to fully learn all aspects of this procedure. Other methods of learning are discussed below. First, lets discuss some of the products you might need to purchase for proper CPR training.

CPR manikins (known as resuscitation Annie) are an important part of proper instruction for CPR. You can purchase these individually or in volume. CPR training courses will offer these as part of their training, too. CPR manikins are equipped with a number of relevant anatomical features, including the Adams apple, carotid artery, chest notch, rib cage, navel and nipples. Some manikins are full body and some just the torso and head.

CPR manikins help instructors demonstrate various aspects of CPR, including jaw lifts, chest rising and chest compression clicks. They can also be used to demonstrate the use of AEDs and the Heimlich maneuver. Infant sizes are also available. Ensure you wipe the mouth of the manikin with disinfectant after use.

Lung bags, often sold along with the manikins are disposed of after each individuals training.

A CPR prompt is also an excellent tool. Its actually used by some people to learn CPR, instead of full training-- though we do not necessarily recommend this. A CPR prompt can guide novice caregivers step-by-step through the CPR process with careful, calm pre-recorded instructions on administering CPR. These can be purchased for under $60.

Learning CPR
There are a number of ways to learn CPR without purchasing a training course. A course is the best way to learn CPR, but if this is not feasible you can purchase CPR training in the form of books, videos and other multi-media. However, if you take a course via St. Johns Ambulance it covers you from litigation providing you do the procedure correctly. We highly recommend taking the course because there are many little things which may be over-looked. Whatever you decide to do remember to practice, practice, practice. You need to get into a rhythm and also if it happens to a loved one you need to stay calm and get on with the procedure. The more comfortable you are with it, the less likely you are to second-guess and panic. Personally, I would not feel comfortable performing CPR on someone if I just watched a video. Take the course, youll never know when you may need it.

If you start CPR you must continue until an ambulance arrives or the victim is pronounced dead by an authority or you can physically no longer continue.

Books
These come in the form of short pamphlets that guide you simply through CPR training.

Videos and other multi-media
These are a worthwhile substitute to full CPR training. Videos can give demonstrations of how CPR works and prepare you for different incidents that may occur in CPR situations.

You can also purchase other forms of multi-media. Using these teaching tools along with CPR manikins and other CPR products, you and your employees can learn at your own pace. Then you can keep the materials and other CPR products on hand for the training of new employees.
